Venus statue
product description
Lovely statue of the goddess of love, Venus! This is a smaller statue, perfect to place in the rose bush, in the arbor, or in a pathway. We love this statue and it only becomes more beautiful with the years.
In 18th century England, it became increasingly common for the aristocracy to adorn their gardens and parks with classicist sculptures – often inspired by the gods and goddesses of antiquity. Among the most popular motifs was Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, whose image reappeared in palaces, orangeries, and formal gardens.
A typical statue of Venus from this time depicts the goddess in full figure, often partially or completely naked, with soft lines, harmonious proportions, and a calm, subdued expression. She sometimes holds a piece of fabric, a mirror, or a dove – all symbols of love, vanity, or fertility. The sculpture is often inspired by famous ancient works such as Venus de’ Medici or Venus Pudica, and is strategically placed in the garden room: by a pond, at the end of an avenue, or in a niche of hedge or wall.
